The "Who Cares" Test
I saw this phrase on social media recently and fell in love with it. I wish I could remember the creator’s name so I could give them credit.
Essentially what this means is, by the time someone gets to the bottom of your social media post or website page, do they care?
Does it pass the “who cares” test?
Gone are the days where you should post just to post. I haven’t recommended that to my clients for years now, and yet I see examples every single day of content that misses the mark. Useless.
When posting, it is NOT better “just to post”.
You should ALWAYS ask yourself, who cares? What value is this bringing to my audience?
If you can’t answer that question, don’t post it until you can.
I keep a folder on my desktop titled BAD CONTENT to share as examples for my clients. So many of us are visual learners and in my experience actually seeing what NOT to post helps us avoid that entirely. I don't expect business owners I work with to see from the content lens quite like I do.
They are often the visionaries, the dreamers, creators. I am the integrator.
Want to see some examples of BAD CONTENT that has made it into my folder? I need to find a way to share the content while removing personal information… stay tuned.
