4 Recommendations for Being Authentic AND Strategic When Creating Content

I was laying in bed last night trying to fall asleep. Our flight departed the next day at 6:20 AM. You know that late night, day before travel, trying to fall asleep feeling?

I swear that’s when my best writing ideas come to me. I was thinking about how I recommend to clients to share who they are authentically online. I am most often asked, “But, how?”

Typically, that question turns into a 15-20 minute discussion where I hear lots of hesitations (and some complaints).

Business owners that I work with are often searching for a middle ground between honoring their work-life boundaries and sharing content that helps their audience see and understand who they really are. I find myself searching for that balance as well!

Below are my top 4 recommendations for being authentic AND strategic with content creation:

  1. Decide in advance what your boundaries are. It’s important to know in advance what you are and aren’t willing to share online.

  2. Know the stats. It’s true that real content is “performing” better online than professionally recorded, stiff, pre-recorded material. Leverage that! Lean into that awareness and let it empower you.

  3. Batch create. I am a BIG fan of building a library of content on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. If that is compatible with your work style, I highly recommend setting aside a block of time and recording all the videos you need for the next couple of weeks. Or setting a sixty-minute timer on your phone and brainstorming blog ideas.

  4. Keep a list of content ideas handy. When inspiration comes, take a few minutes and snap a photo or write a quick caption to go with it. This stays in alignment with being authentic but also plays into strategy.

Why only 4 and not 5?  Simply put - my flight is boarding.
